I am trying to hook my computer to a projector but no image is appearing?

I am using a mac book pro and I have the mac connected and all ready to a screenplay 4800 projector..but there is no image. when I plugged in the projector my screen got bigger but it doesn't seem like the computer recognizes the projector.. any help?
