Can i use my Corei3 Satellite L500-21T (toshiba) to play ps3?

i have been trying to use my laptop to play ps3 i see the HDMI port and i have the HDMI cable , but its just not working i pressed function and F5(as if its a projector) and it doesn't do anything so am starting to think that maybe i can't play ps3 on this laptop and i was wondering if any1 knew something i could try
